History of creation and further development
Although the plant was established not so long ago, its history is quite interesting. It started with true friendship and love for a quality product. Even before the opening of the distillery, the founders experienced some difficulties because of a law that had been in effect in Great Britain since 1823. The Excise Act prevented obtaining a distiller’s licence for a still less than 1,800 litres. However, a little later, some changes took place and the newly created plant was allowed to produce drinks in small quantities. In March 2009, they created the final gin recipe. The founders tried to preserve the original taste of the drink and followed all the London traditions inherent in this business. Shortly before that, the first still, Prudence, was installed at the factory. It was the pride of this place for many years. The still was developed by the German company Christian Carl. Later, the founders resolved the issue of visual attributes of the company. The elegant and graceful swan, which can be seen on both the logo of the distillery and the packaging of the products itself, reminds everybody of the refined taste of the company’s drinks. Initially, the Sipsmith factory didn’t offer a wide range of products. For a certain period of time, the distillery produced only two types of spirits, namely London Dry Gin and Barley Vodka. They were produced in small batches (approximately 300 bottles). However, their products were of high quality, which gave the plant the opportunity for further development. The factory representatives carried out several experiments based on the classic gin recipe and managed to get a good result. It was a kind of creative process because experts created new, completely different and balanced flavours step by step. In their attempts, the experts even tried to render the taste of a certain season. Later, the plant acquired several other distillers. Therefore, the modern variety of drinks is simply amazing.
